Looking for Summer Reading & Literacy Support for your Student or Child? Kelsey Hall, one of AT for Ed’s AAC/AT Specialists, provides language and literacy services to students K-12.  In addition to being an ASHA certified speech-language pathologist (SLP) and DOE certified teacher of the deaf (TOD), she is a certified Level I Orton-Gillingham instructor (per training via the Children’s Dyslexia Centers).

Diana Petschauer, M.Ed., ATP & Alyssa Marinaccio, M.Ed.Transition from high school to college is a significant and critical time in a student’s life and educational career. This webinar will inform participants of strategies and resources to help ensure that the transition is a successful one! Learn about the different assistive technology options for students in high school and college.  Free and low-cost AT options, self-advocacy and awareness skills, and IEPs vs 504 will be discussed. The presenters will share their knowledge on how to seek accommodations in college including: when to start; what to ask for, who to contact, and what documentation colleges require. Learn the process for registering with the Disabilities Services Office. Information regarding the acquisition of accessible versions of textbooks will also be shared (as this differs from the high school process).  Assistive technology options will be demonstrated including literacy support, note taking support, executive function support, and support for sensory and physical disabilities.

This information is incredibly helpful for high school students, parents, transition coordinators, Vocational Rehabilitation counselors, school counselors/ advisors, high school educators & special educators.  Many resources will be shared for participants to refer back to and use immediately.

Apps Across The Curriculum!

After first issuing 1:1 iPads and laptops, many schools are now implementing BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) programs that provide more choice for educators and learners. Some are even Going Google with Chromebooks and Google Apps for Education (GAFE). How do you support learners on all of these devices, including your struggling learners, using free and low cost Apps & AT solutions? Join us for this in-depth workshop focusing on the most important assistive technology tools for ensuring success for all learners on all devices!  Using FREE and low cost programs and software, apps, extensions, and the built-in accessibility features and tools available on the Apple’s IOS devices (For iPads and iPhones) and from Google’s Chrome Web Store (For Chromebooks, laptops, tablets, & Surface Pro).

You will learn about a number of built-in accessibility features that provide free AT solutions for diverse learners out of the box, as well as a number of free and low cost apps to support your struggling students in accessing textbooks and learning materials (Handouts/Worksheets) and completing assignments using technology. AT and app solutions to support students with learning disabilities (including Dyslexia), physical disabilities, low vision or blindness, and difficulties with executive functioning, literacy and math will be discussed. With these apps, software and assistive technology supports, you will have a powerful toolkit for fostering access and success across all platforms, devices, and subjects! Free tools and features include text to speech for research and textbooks as well as worksheets, speech to text (voice recognition, access to Bookshare, mind-mapping and brainstorming, scheduling & reminders, note taking support, word prediction, completing worksheets and handouts with technology, literacy practice and access to math, and more!

We will also dive into the Chrome web store as well as using Google Docs and Google Drive.

*Note: It is imperative that participants have access to a device that allows them administrative privileges to download free and low cost apps and AT as they choose, or a personal device that they own and is not school issued. You may use more than one device including an iPad, laptop (mac or PC, Chromebook, Surface pro, Android tablet). For school trainings, IT/Admin can download apps ahead of time, or after the training as they see appropriate.
