“These tactile screen shots of various iPad screens show you “what” appears “where” on the your iPad – from the buttons and camera lenses to the the home screen apps, the App Store, messages, settings, keypad, contacts, iBooks, & iTunes.”

Diana Petschauer‘s insight:

These are very helpful guides for a student or adult who is Blind or Low Vision and would benefit from the braille or tactile guidance while learning to use an iPad or iOS device.

"Readers will get a clearer sense of how to find icons and elements on the screen, as well as how to manipulate and interact with them."

I also recommend the app VO Starter, for individuals who want to learn how to use the built-in VoiceOver, as VoiceOver and the app guide them through step by step lessons:

Defining My Dyslexia

By Uncategorized

See on Scoop.itAssistive Technology for Education

Perhaps I’ve succeeded not

despite of, but because of,

my disability.

Diana Petschauer‘s insight:

Such a Phenomal Article by an excellent author and medical student!

"Studies using cognitive testing and functional M.R.I.’s have demonstrated exceptional three-dimensional and spatial reasoning among dyslexic individuals, which may account for the many successful dyslexic engineers. Similar studies have shown increased creativity and big-picture thinking (or “gist-detection”) in dyslexics, which correlates with the surprising number of dyslexic entrepreneurs, novelists and filmmakers."

"Today’s educational environment exacerbates dyslexic weaknesses. Schools misidentify poor spelling and slow reading as a lack of intelligence; typically diagnose the condition only after students have fallen behind; and too often fail to provide dyslexic students with the audio and video materials that would help them learn. Until these disadvantages are removed, “disability” most accurately describes what young dyslexics confront."

When Michael Gore stands, it’s a triumph of science and engineering.

Diana Petschauer‘s insight:

Awesome…

"The technology has many nicknames. Besides “wearable robot,” the inventions also are called “electronic legs” or “powered exoskeletons.” This version, called Indego, is among several competing products being used and tested in U.S. rehab hospitals that hold promise not only for people such as Gore with spinal injuries, but also those recovering from strokes or afflicted with multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy."
